What is Waves of Grain?

There is something mysterious about buffalo and bison. No? As if they, with every bite of grass, become the secret keepers for generations — the secrets of the blood shed on this soil, the land taken, the sacrifices made, the trials overcome, and what it could still be like if we aspired to the brotherhood espoused in “America the Beautiful.”

With Waves of Grain, each person who tells their story is but one stalk of grain. But together, they make up a mighty, colorful wave, reminding us we are more alike than we know. How about you? What story does your stalk of grain tell?

  • This is a simple interview-style, documentary web series, featuring short clips on social platforms and longer interviews on YouTube.

  • This docu-series, in development, features interviews with American residents of differing backgrounds and beliefs, but who all share:

    • a powerful inspirational journey

    • a unique interpretation of the American Dream.

  • "Oh beautiful, for spacious skies
    For amber waves of grain
    For purple mountain majesties
    Above the fruited plain

But now wait a minute, I'm talking about
    America, sweet America
You know, God done shed his grace on thee
He crowned thy good, yes he did, in brotherhood
    From sea to shining sea"

-Ray Charles' version of Katherine Lee Bates' 1895-1913 poem (and song)
